Increasing grain selenium concentration via genetic and agronomic innovations

چکیده
Abstract Aims To evaluate the potential to enhance grain Selenium (Se) concentration in wheat through agronomic innovation practices and exploitation of existing genetic variation. Methods Grain samples from field experiments carried out as part EU projects Nitrogen Use Efficiency (NUE-CROPS), Healthy Minor Cereals (HMC) Quality Low Input Food (QLIF) were analysed identify effects species/variety, fertiliser type crop protection regime on yield, protein selenium concentrations. Results Fertiliser significantly affected Se concentration. In NUE-CROPS QLIF trials use farm-yard manure (FYM) resulted higher when compared with mineral applied at same N input level. Similarly, HMC trial, FYM cattle slurry a biogas digestate fertiliser. trials, organic conventional protection. The detected significant differences between varieties both common ( Triticum aestivum ) spelt T. spelta ). Correlation analyses across identified negative correlation yield for positive plant height species. Conclusions Higher concentrations taller suggest that there is considerable breed/select high by exploiting traits/genetic variation present older, traditional species (e.g. spelt).

Genetic Variation and Agronomic Evaluation of Chickpea Cultivars for Grain Yield and Its Components Under Irrigated and Rainfed Growing Conditions
Water deficit is an important factor limiting crop growth all over the world. In order to evaluate genetic variation, heritability and the interrelationship between agronomic traits, twenty chickpea genotypes were cultivated in two separated randomized complete block experiments with three replications under normal irrigated and rainfed conditions. The experiments were carried out at the Agricu...
متن کاملIncreasing Wheat Yields Sustainably through Agronomic Means
This paper examines common factors that constrain wheat yields: insufficient nutrients (using nitrogen as an example); problems of late planting and poor crop establishment; suboptimal water management; lodging; and weeds. The authors suggest agronomic practices, including tillage practices, rotations, and input management options that can ameliorate important constraints and sustainably improv...
متن کاملIncreasing productivity in irrigated agriculture: Agronomic constraints and hydrological realities
Irrigation is widely criticised as a profligate and wasteful user of water, especially in watershort areas. Improvements to irrigation management are proposed as a way of increasing agricultural production and reducing the demand for water. The terminology for this debate is often flawed, failing to clarify the actual disposition of water used in irrigation into evaporation, transpiration, and ...
متن کاملgenetic diversity of hulless barley lines and path analysis by grain yield and other agronomic traits
20 hulless barley lines were assessed by grain yield and other agronomic traits in 2006 and 2007 in the research station of the university of tabriz, iran. the experiments in each year were carried out as randomized complete block design with four replications. the genotypes were significantly different for most of the studied traits. this indicated the existence of large genetic variation in t...
